Advertise your property FREE
Some Landlords choose to self-manage their properties as opposed to using an agent. While we would be happy to have your business, we are equally happy to help and support independent landlords where we can and so we've created an option which allows you to upload your properties and benefit from the traffic our site generates.
There are some instructions below to help you but if you've loaded properties on to other websites, it's more or less the same, but without the cost.
Adding your property (see further below our section on loading images)
- Click the tab on the right hand side of the home page titled 'Add your property'
- A page will come up headed 'Create Property' and you will now see the fields for you to complete.
Now you can add as much, or little information as you want. The fields marked with a red asterisk must be completed.
3. In the 'Title' field, enter a brief description of the Aberdeen flat or house that you want to rent out e.g 22 Acacia Avenue, West End, Aberdeen - Stylish 2 bed flat etc.
4. Next 'Upload Images' of your property. Click on 'Browse' to select the images from your files, then click 'Upload.' You can load multiple images by just repeating the process.
(Each individual image file size is limited to 100KB. Larger images significantly slow down websites. If you get a warning message, then the file is too big. If you have software on your computer to reduce the file size, that's fine. If not, I'll give you some tips as to how to do this below)
5. Now select from the five drop down boxes and add your property details in the 'Description of Property' and 'Feature Points' open text fields.
6. Add the address and location details in the 'Property Location' fields.
7. Complete the details under 'Marketing' (ignore the 'Sale' box - just leave it blank)
8. Add your contact details and that's about it.
The system will send me an email for authorisation and once this has been done, then you'll be live on the site. Please remember to let me know when the property is rented out so I can take it off the website.
Loading Image / Reducing the File Size
There are a number of ways to reduce the file size of an image. If you have the appropriate software on your system, please use that. If not you can find a free download at www.gimp.org or google the word 'gimp.'
It's fairly straight forward and I'll give you some tips below but if you're having difficulty, try to get someone to help you. Unfortunately I can't offer that kind of support but I'm sure you'll find someone who can. Also there are help resource on the gimp website which will be able to take you through it. Anyway, some tips to get you started:
Once you're in 'gimp' go to File and Open to select your images.
With the image you want to upload on the screen go to 'Image' then 'Image Properties' and that will show you the current file size and give you an idea of how much you need to reduce it by.
OK and close 'Image Properties.'
With the image open go to File then Save.
A box will appear titled 'Save as JPEG.' Reduce the quality to around 45 or lower. (This will be perfectly good enough for use on a website)
Check the image size again in Image Properites as before, and if it's below 100KB, then save it to the folder on your computer and load it on to the website as previously described.
If its still too big, repeat the process but going to File then Revert.
Then go File and Save again to reduce the quality further.
Hope that helps!
